Poker Bonus FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Poker Bonuses

How do I use the bonus code? If no code is needed, how can the poker site know that I qualify for the bonus?

Only some poker sites provide a certain bonus code that needs to be typed in to get the bonus. You normally have to do this either when signing up or when making your first deposit. Look for the bonus code field in the forms you fill in, and make sure you type the code exactly as stated on this site. Some times the bonus code will not be asked for, and it will be sufficient that you have clicked your way to the site using one of our hyperlinks.

If no code is needed, it means that the bonus code is incorporated in our links to the poker site. To get the bonus, simply make sure you open up the poker site by clicking on one of our links, instead of just typing the address in your web browser. This way the poker site will automatically know, that you qualify for the bonus.

What does 100% deposit match mean?

100% deposit match means that when accepting this bonus offer, you will get a bonus of 100% the size of the amount that you deposit on your real money account on the particular poker site.

Example: You deposit $50 of your own money. With a 100% deposit match you will receive an additional $50 bonus from the poker site. If the bonus is 200% you will receive $100 for your $50. If the bonus is 50% you will only receive $25 for your $50 deposit.

What does a bonus of $500 mean? - Will the poker site just give me $500?

Most bonuses are limited to a percentage of the amount you deposit yourself (see question above). If a bonus gives you 100% deposit match up to $500, you will only get the maximum amount ($500) if you deposit $500 yourself. If you only deposit $50 when using the bonus code, you will only get a bonus of $50, and the remaining $450 will be forfeited.

Remember, that you can always withdraw the money you put in yourself. The bonus however will be locked until you have played a certain number of poker hands on real money tables.

Is there a time limit for releasing the bonus?

Many sites impose a time limit, usually 2-3 months, for releasing their bonus. If that time passes, and you still haven't played enough poker hands to release the whole bonus, the rest of the bonus will be lost. Mostly the bonus is released incrementally $1 at a time. But some sites release the whole bonus at once or large lumps of the bonus at a time. If they do this, you could loose a substantial part of the bonus if you don't reach the required number of hands in time. Advice: Always check the bonus details before signing up to a bonus - particularly if the bonus is large ($500+). Make an assesment of how many hands you will realistically be able to play on the site before the time limit runs out, and check how much of the bonus you will loose if you don't make it in time. Be aware that if you play low limits it will take more poker hands to release the bonus. Try to pick a bonus scheme that fits your poker playing goals and limits.

Can I withdraw my initial deposit again?

Every one of our poker sites will allow you to withdraw your own money any time you want. The bonus you have signed up for can only be withdrawed after you have played a certain number of poker hands for real money on the site.

In the bonus details section, it says that I have to earn some number of points to release the bonus. But how many hands do I have to play to earn these points?

How fast you earn points depend on many factor. Firstly it depends on the poker site. Secondly it depends on the money limit you play on and how many tables you play at the same time. Besides this there can be other factors depending on the site.

To find out how the individual site assigns points, click the link to the site and read their policy on this.

Can't I just sign up, withdraw my bonus, and close the account right away?

You will never be able to withdraw your bonus right away. Every site requires you to play a certain number of poker hands for real money before you can withdraw your bonus. You will always be able to withdraw your own money though. Mostly the bonus will be released incrementally, for example $1 at a time. Because of this, and because most sites only allow you 2-3 months to release your bonus, you should not sign up to a large bonus ($500+), if you don't have a lot of time to play poker on that particular site in during the next couple of months.

Can I sign up on more than one site and collect several bonuses?

The main rule is that you can sign up on as many poker sites that you wish, and collect a sign up bonus from each site. There can be exceptions in some cases where different sites are owned by the same company. If this is the case you will usually only find out when trying to register for the second of these sites. Most sites aren't affiliated so these cases are rare.

Also please remember, that in most cases you will only have a limited time frame to release a bonus. So unless you don't each or sleep and only play poker for the next couple of months, you won't be able to release more than 1 (maximum 2-3) bonuses at a time. So if you are looking to jump from site to site just to score the bonus, feel free, but be patient and take one site at a time.

No deposit required - How can this be for real? Are they crazy or is this a scam?

Some poker sites will actually give you money to start playing with on their site, without you having to deposit anything. - This is actually NOT a scam. Instead it is simply brilliant marketing by the poker site.

To understand how this can be, you have to understand how poker sites make money. This is a long story so here's the short version: Poker sites make their earnings by collecting a very small part of every pot played on the site. If you become a regular and winning player on their site, you will be participating in 1000s of poker hands over time. This way you will earn the poker site their money back many times, while you are winning yourself at the same time.

For this bonus scheme to work, the poker site must get as many of the participating players as possible to become winning players. Therefore you will usually see these bonuses coming from poker sites that offer education and training to you for free.

Advice: This kind of sign-up bonus is perfect for amateur players looking to get better at poker. If you follow the education and advice from the poker site, you will have the biggest possible chance of succeeding in the game of poker.
